Changelog
New tools, and what’s been added to the existing ones.
On/off ratings per 100 possessions
The players' On/Off tab now shows points per 100 possessions with each player on and off the floor, for the team's offence, the opponents' offence and the net of the two — on/off offensive, defensive and net ratings — alongside TSA per 100 possessions at both ends. Points per 100 is TSA per 100 times points per TSA, so the tab now shows how many chances a lineup created or allowed as well as how well they were finished. A possession counts for the five players on the floor when it ended.
Positions, and a fairer “Qualified”
Player leaderboards now show each player's position, with a filter for guards, forwards or any one of the five. “Qualified” now depends on the tab: the shooting tabs still ask for six true shot attempts per team game, and the others ask for fifteen minutes per team game, so rebounders and defenders who rarely shoot are no longer left out.
NBA columns back to 1996–97
The NBA's own figures — usage, PIE, assist, rebound and turnover percentages, the four factors and player ages — now reach back to 1996–97, like the rest of the leaderboards, instead of starting in 2000–01. Rebound and turnover rankings cover those four seasons too.
Possessions recounted
Team possessions are now counted more accurately from play-by-play: they match the NBA's own count exactly in 78% of games and within one in 97%. Offensive and defensive ratings, rankings and TSA per 100 possessions have all been updated. The largest change is Charlotte's offence from 1996–97 to 2001–02, which had been undercounted by up to seven points per 100.
Team rankings
A Rankings tab on the team leaderboards: where each team ranks that season on offence, defence and net rating (counted from play-by-play back to 1996–97), the offence-plus-defence rank sum, efficiency by shot type, shot mix, shots per possession, pace, rebounding and turnovers.
